Whenever I am exploring beaches, I am always drawn to the way the weather erodes different rock formations, and the many patterns that form as a result of the continuous changes in temperature, wind levels, salt crystallisation, and chemical reactions.
This design was inspired by the way the weather erodes sandstone. I love the way it creates almost perfect potholes in the surface, creating space for whole ecosystems to adapt and survive in. This ring started as a piece of wax, I carved the main ring shape out and then used a heated tool to start eroding the surface as the weather would in sandstone. It was a slow and organic process, much like the eroding of rocks, only I took hours, not a few hundred years!
I finished the ring with a 3mm flush set Citrine sourced from Brazil. I bought the stone from my dealer who has a small family owned mine in Brazil. It is fully traceable and I really appreciate their ethos for ensuring all of their workers are well paid and looked after. The stone symolises the sun.
Made using the ancient lost wax casting method.
